Amended exam update
In the past we were able to give a temporary card of 1-3 month for drivers to fulfill certain requirements. Examples would be blood pressure above 140/90, bringing in CPAP compliance reports, notes from another medical provider. The FMCSA no longer allows this to be done. If the blood pressure is above 140/90 a 3 month medical card can still be given, but after the 3 months an entire new exam will need to be done. If a note from another provider is needed or other information is needed and a 1 month card is issued the entire exam needs to done again.
They do allow for a 45 day pending exam. This allows drivers to complete anything needed for their medical card without having to do the entire exam again. The catch with the 45 day pending exam is that no medical card will be issued. If they still have time on their old medical card the driver will be able to continue driving.
This is directly from the FMCSA:
Only the Medical Examination Report From, MCSA-5875 can be amended and only while in determination pending. Each time a Medical Examiner's Certificate, Form MCSA-5876 is issued, a new examination must be completed an the “medical examiner’s certificate expiration date” is calculated from the date the qualification determination is made and the driver is issued a Medical Examiner's Certificate, Form MCSA-5876.
